For Industry
In general, the role of the IB is to support the mission and objectives of the Computer Science Department and the Computer Science Department Chair by brainstorming, prototyping concepts, performing analysis, conducting pilot and / or ongoing programs, develop ideas and ultimately make recommendations to the Computer Science Department. It is not expected that the IB will implement the recommended programs but instead turn over the recommendations to the department and/or other university organizations.
Specific annual objectives for the IB will typically be established at the beginning of each calendar year during the January meeting based upon joint discussions with the Computer Science Department chair, and other university representatives as appropriate, as well as IB member organizations. IB objectives will be adjusted as appropriate throughout the calendar year as initiatives are completed and / or new priorities are established. IB objectives will generally fall into one of the following categories.
- Provide counsel to CS Department to help ensure curriculum is in line with the ongoing evolution of the Information Technology industry as a whole as evolving / ongoing needs of IB member organizations.
- Facilitate the understanding of how IT is applied within industry.
- Help to foster an entrepreneurial culture among the students and faculty in the Computer Science Department with the objective of the establishment of spin-off companies.
- Facilitate / contribute to the expansion of interaction among alumni, students and Computer Science Department faculty through activities such as social networking, on campus related CS Department events (alumni reunions) and internship / Co-Op opportunities.
- Work with the Computer Science Department to find ways to increase enrollment and retain students in both the B.S. and M.S. program.
